The RATSACK Cache Bag:
A pouch made from knitted, stainless steel to protect food, supplies and gear while camping or backpacking. These bags were created to stop rodents and other pesky critters from destroying consumables and equipment while in the backcountry.
Before the Ratsack Cache Bag, we used to always have trouble with rodents, ring-tailed cats, collared peccaries and even coyotes that constantly raided food and water supplies while camped at regular campsites. These varmits will chew through backpacks and almost anything else to get at food. Packs have to be left open so that they won't be destroyed by the hungry critters looking for something to eat.
The food and food trash were kept inside stuff sacks, away from the packs and other equipment, but the determined varmits would always seem to get into the food or spread the garbage all over the campsite.
It's always much worse at established campsites with heavy use. Some of these heavily used campsites provide ammo cans for food storage, but many times the ammo cans are full of garbage from the previous campers.
Hard sided containers like ammo boxes work
great, but are
heavy and bulky. Soft sided containers like stuff sacks are always being
gnawed through, even those with Kevlar type fabrics. The stainless steel mesh is the
key to RATSACK. It allows the RATSACK to remain lightweight, strong and flexible. The 2" Velcro closure is easy for you to open, but the varmits
won't be able to. Sturdy nylon webbing covers the end edges of the bag.
The RATSACK is weather resist and will last for many years when used properly.
